Lissette Campos (Photo)The 5-time Emmy award winning journalist, Lissette Campos, is the Director of Community Affairs for ABC Action News. She launched “Positively Tampa Bay” in 2008 – shining the light on every day heroes and non-profits making a positive impact in the community. In 2009, Lissette launched the nationally recognized “Taking Action Against Domestic Violence” campaign and under her leadership, the awareness campaign has helped increase calls to the statewide domestic violence hotline by 77%. (Source: Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence). The campaign and its annual 1-hour special have won 3 Emmy awards and 5 Emmy nominations and honored with the prestigious Service to Community Award of 2013 presented by the National Association of Broadcasters.

Lissette’s commitment to community goes beyond her work with domestic violence awareness & prevention. Community organizations in the Tampa Bay area named Lissette Hispanic Woman of the Year in Media,  Business Woman of the Year in Media and 2013 Hispanic Woman of the Year. The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ Suncoast Chapter honored her with the prestigious Silver Circle Award in 2013 for 25 years in communications & journalism.

Lissette is the daughter of Cuban immigrants – political refugees who arrived in the U.S. in the fall of 1961. She’s a proud alumna of the journalism school of Florida International University – Class of 1989! She began her broadcasting career in Miami as a general assignment reporter for WLTV 23 – Univision. Her undercover reporting in Moscow, Russia and Havana, Cuba produced award winning stories for the Univision and CBS stations in South Florida. In 2001, Lissette joined WFTS TV ABC Action News in Tampa, FL. Since then, her work has been recognized by the National Headliners’ Awards, Society of Professional Journalists and the Florida Associated Press. She is a strong believer in leadership and empowerment programs for young women and working moms and says her most “important role of all” is parenthood! She and husband Angel are the proud parents of daughters, Sophia and Audrey.
